A Message from Lucas and a whole load of gushing reviews!

I am Lucas Renney, a singer-songwriter from Sunderland in the North East of England. I’ve spent the last few years watching the burgeoning success of my friends and former colleagues The Futureheads and Field Music with a mixture of affectionate, hometown pride and uncontrollable, seething jealousy Happily, though, I’ve just released my debut album ‘Strange Glory’ on Brille Records.

Produced by Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde and featuring Midlake’s Paul Alexander and McKenzie Smith on bass and drums respectively and has been compared to the work of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello and Richard Hawley. Although obviously thrilled and flattered to be mentioned in the same breath as such esteemed artists, I’d like to think I’ve found my own distinctive musical and lyrical voice on this album.

"William Blake meets The Cocteau Twins on this captivating debut"

(The Observer)

"Gently-does-it genuis" (NME 9/10)

"Strikingly beautiful songs from the darkside" Q (4/5)

"Mackem singer-songwriters hushed yet stately debut" (Uncut)

"He grabs hold of your heart with his icy hands" (Radio Times)

"twilight, resonant delights" (Word)

"As warm as a hot toddy and as sad as a broken dream" (Independent)
